NPP contender for Nagaland assembly bypoll goes ‘missing’

GUWAHATI: The National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for byelection to Nagaland’s Aonglenden assembly seat, O Tinu Lkr, has been reported ‘missing’ since Tuesday.


The birthday party, headed by means of Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma, has filed an FIR and written to the Election Commission, alleging foul play. NPP walked out of the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance of Nationalist Democratic People’s Party (NDPP) and BJP in Nagaland just lately. The two MLAs it had within the Nagaland assembly merged with NDPP, which chief minister Neiphiu Rio heads.


“It is to bring to the notice of your esteemed place of business a matter of grave concern, person who blatantly attempts to violate the Model Code of Conduct and trample upon the Constitutional proper to unfastened and truthful elections,” Ato Yepthomi, president of NPP’s Nagaland unit, wrote to the Chief Election Commissioner.


“The National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland State Unit has fielded Shri O Tinu Lkr because the Party candidate for the 26th Aonglenden Assembly Constituency Bye-Election 2019, to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Since 26th March 2019 the mentioned Party candidate Shri. zero. Tinu Lkr has been missing and given the magnitude of the end result of this Bye-Election with risk of immediately affecting the incumbent executive, there may be every explanation why to believe that that there's foul play on this topic,” Yepthomi added, in the hunt for immediate inquiry.


The Mokokchung district unit of NPP, under whose jurisdiction the Aonglenden assembly constituency falls, also filed an FIR with the Mokokchung police on Wednesday.
