Russian arrested smuggling drugged orangutan in Indonesia

DENPASAR: Authorities say they have got arrested a Russian tourist who was attempting to smuggle a drugged orangutan out of Indonesia's lodge island of Bali.


Ketut Catur Marbawa from Bali province's conservation company says 27-year-old Andrei Zhestkov was captured overdue Friday at the airport after an X-ray discovered the 2-year-old male orangutan in a rattan basket within his baggage.


Marbawa said Sunday that customs officers additionally discovered hypersensitivity drugs, two geckos and 5 lizards in the guy's suitcase. All animals the animals have been alive.


He said that Zhestkov instructed government he deliberately fed the orangutan hypersensitivity drugs mixed with milk, causing the animal to lose consciousness for as much as 3 hours. He instructed them he deliberate to re-dose the animal throughout a transit in Seoul.
