Babu Paul to be laid to rest at Perumbavoor today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Scholar, creator and previous additional chief secretary of Kerala, D Babu Paul passed on to the great beyond at a non-public medical institution right here on Saturday. Paul’s 78th birthday was once on Thursday.

Born as the eldest son of P A Paulose Corescopa and Mary Paul in Ernakulam in 1941, Paul was once a prominent presence in the cultural, literary, theological realms. The former civil servant was once recognized for his sharp observations and commentaries. Perhaps it was once the same clarity of thought and fearlessness to specific ahead of political bosses that cost him the chair of chief secretary. However, his wit and erudition took him puts, which just a few chief secretaries may just succeed in.




Paul handed college final exam with third rank. After completing civil engineering, he joined government provider as junior engineer. A few years he gave the civil provider exam and got here 7th at all-India degree.

The maximum notable length of his career was once the preliminary years in the provider. Following the particular directive of then chief minister C Achutha Menon, he had overseen the work of the Idukki reservoir, considered Asia’s largest arch dam. The diligence with which he oversaw the venture had received him accolades.

A person of deep wisdom in theology, Paul was once a darling of the Church. He was once bestowed Kerala Sahitya Academy Award for ‘Vedasabda Ratnakaram’, a complete Biblical lexicon in Malayalam.

He was once a motivating force at the back of the State Civil Service Academy, constituted for providing coaching classes to civil provider aspirants.

After shedding chief secretaryship between cup and lip, he opted for voluntary retirement from provider on the age of 59 and served as local self-government ombudsman.

Paul was once admitted to medical institution earlier this week, following liver problems. His condition worsened, leading to more than one organ failure and a massive cardiac arrest led to his dying.


His body was once saved for public to pay homage at St Peter's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Simhasana Cathedral at Punnen Road near Secretariat in the morning and later at his place of dwelling at Mummy's Colony at Kowdiar right here. Funeral would be held at Kurupampady Jacobite Church near Perumbavoor on Sunday.


Late Anna Babu Paul is his wife. He is survived through kids Mariam Joseph and Cherian C Paul. Former Union aviation secretary and UPAC member K Roy Paul is his brother.


Political leaders, including chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, BJP leader Kummanam Rajasekharan, speaker P Sreeramakrishnan, condoled the dying.
