Ranchi: Outgoing MP and former BJP leader Ram Tahal Choudhary, who's contesting from the Ranchi seat as an impartial candidate after he was once refused the party ticket, was once allocated a soccer as his election symbol on Monday. This was once his 2d selection for an emblem — his first selection, a farmer ploughing the sphere, was once no longer to be had.
Meanwhile, from autorickshaws to helicopter or even a bowl of chow mein — Ranchi’s impartial candidates were allocated their symbols after the cut-off date for withdrawal of nominations ended at 3pm.
“The symbols have been allocated both in keeping with the choice filed by the candidates or from a listing of 197 pieces via computer randomization in case they haven’t opted for any explicit symbol,” said Ranchi deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer Rai Mahimapat Ray.
“Alok Kumar, who opted for a pineapple as his first selection, were given the symbol and so did Sunita Munda — who opted for a coat. Another candidate, Parmeshwar Mahto, opted for three different alternatives, however all of them were unavailable. He was once allocated the symbol of a house,” said Ray.
With three candidates retreating their nomination from Ranchi Lok Sabha constituency, a total of 20 candidates are now in the fray right here. Rajesh Mahato, Mokhtar Ahamad and Arshad Ayub — all impartial candidates — withdrew their candidature prior to the cut-off date.
“We have given the benefit of doubt to Anjani Pandey, whose scrutiny effects were pending, following a grievance that he didn't claim prison proceedings against him. Till date, we haven’t won any information of instances against him from the SPs of Latehar, Palamu, Ranchi and Aurangabad. He has been provisionally allowed as a valid candidate for the Ranchi constituency. If the charges are found to be true, he will face legal motion for submitting a false affidavit,” Ray added.
