Khanna: A large fire broke out in a hardware items and plywood godown on Samrala Road right here on Monday evening. Fire officers said 12 to 14 tenders were pressed into carrier to douse the flames.
The blaze that engulfed the godown on the best ground of the three-storey building didn't spread to different floors.
Fire officer Yashpal Rai said because the inferno was once large, they needed to employ more than a dozen fire tenders, together with three from Khanna, two from Samrala, two from Mandi Gobindgarh, two from Ludhiana, one every from Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Ropar and Nawanshahr. He added that the godown and an adjoining showroom on the similar ground were owned by Hukum Chand and Sons and contained hardware stuff, paints, furniture.
“Around 50 officers of our division are running to regulate the fire that started around 5.30pm. We faced issues as the fire started on the 3rd ground of the building, which is attached to the principle road via a slender road. And the opposite front could also be via the principle road. We managed to get water pipes through the slender side road and hopefully we will regulate the flames soon. Fire has no longer reached the adjoining digital items showroom owned by the godown proprietor,” he said.
Showroom proprietor Hukum Chand said the reason was once a brief circuit. “Around 5.30pm, my workers noticed flames within the godown and until the time they went with extinguishers, the blaze had spread. I got a decision from my employee Gurpreet Singh. I used to be within the different showroom on the time and rushed to the spot. Now that fireside tenders have arrived, we're hopeful that the blaze will likely be controlled soon. We have suffered huge losses, which will likely be assessed within the morning,” he said.
He added that had the blaze started at night, it could have caused large-scale devastation.
Fire officers said fortuitously no one suffered any injuries and it appears the fire was once caused by a brief circuit, however things would become clear after right kind investigation.
As thick smoke billowed from the store, a large number of other folks collected on the spot. Police needed to ask them to clear the road for the fire tenders. Traffic was once also diverted on the Khanna-Samrala Road. Dark layers of smoke were seen against Malerkotla road.
The firefighters were on the process until the submitting of the file.
