Cyclone 'Fani': Many flights, train services disrupted

NEW DELHI: The Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Indian Railways have made necessary arrangements to make sure that all precautions and standard working procedures are put in position in view of the 'extraordinarily severe' cyclonic hurricane 'Fani', which is more likely to make landfall in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, on May 3.

The severe cyclonic hurricane is more likely to impact the operations of flights and trains to and from the coastal states.


While, AAI has issued an alert to all coastal airports to support precautions, the railways has also made particular arrangements to evacuate tourists and visitors from Puri.

Civil aviation minister Suresh Prabhu mentioned that every one government concerned had been alerted so that they're in a position to maintain cyclone 'Fani' and all airways had been asked to supply help in rescue and reduction operations.

"Alerted all concerned to be ready to deal with Cyclone Fani. Airports Authority of India issued alert to all coastal airports to ensure all precautions, SOPs (standard operating procedures) put in place immediately," Prabhu mentioned in a tweet.



Indigo Airlines has cancelled all flights from and to Vishakhapatnam. "Due to Cyclone Fani, flights to/from Visakhapatnam have been cancelled for today (May 2) and tomorrow (May 3)," Indigo mentioned.



Vistara airways also issued an advisory to passengers which mentioned, "In light of expected cyclone FANI which is likely to impact Bhubaneswar and Kolkata on May 2 and 3. We are waiving change and cancellation fee for Bhubaneswar and Kolkata flights for travel between May 2 and 5; fare difference, if any, will be applicable for date changes."



Budget carrier GoAir has issued a observation saying, "All GoAir flights in and out from Bhubaneswar Airport (BBI) stands cancelled on May 3, 2019."

The airline also mentioned that it's going to not rate any rate for rescheduling or cancellations for its flights to and from Bhubaneswar, Kolkata and Ranchi between May 2 and May 5, due to the cyclone. Passengers can re-book their flights inside seven days of scheduled departure of the flight.



The railways mentioned round 95 trains had been cancelled within the remaining two days while 3 particular trains had been put into carrier to ferry stranded passengers from affected spaces.


The national transporter mentioned it's going to grant a complete refund to passengers for the cancelled or diverted trains if tickets are produced for cancellation inside 3 days from the scheduled date of journey.


The railways had cancelled 81 trains on Wednesday as neatly.
