Odisha releases Rs 364 crore for farmers affected by unseasonal rain

BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Wednesday released Rs 364.76 crore from the state crisis reduction fund as agriculture input subsidy (cash assistance to compensate the investment in agriculture) for rain-hit farmers in 19 districts.

The particular reduction commissioner's (SRC) place of work additionally notified an area of four.07 lakh hectares in 14720 villages under 2460 gram panchayats of 133 blocks and 257 wards of 38 urban native bodies in 19 districts as suffering from unseasonal rain, mentioned an official supply.

As in keeping with the SDRF norms, farmers whose agriculture/horticulture plants are affected to the extent of 33 in keeping with cent or above gets agriculture input subsidy on the charge Rs 6,800 in keeping with hectare in case of rainfed areas and Rs 13,500 in case of areas under assured irrigation. The farmers would get input subsidy for maximum two hectares.


Ganjam district gained best input subsidy of Rs 111.97 crore as maximum 97,233 hectares of paddy crop broken followed by Kendrapada that gained Rs 58.04 crore for injury of over 76,345 hectares of crop, mentioned an official notification.


Among other districts, Jajpur gained Rs 41 crore, Khurda (Rs 32.26 crore), Puri (Rs 37.52 crore), Bhadrak (Rs 28 crore), Nayagrah (Rs 20 crore) and Mayurbhanj gained Rs 14 crore.


Special reduction commissioner Bishnupada Sethi authorized creditors of the 19 districts to disburse input subsidy to the farmers instantly.


Earlier, the farmers bore the brunt of crop loss due to drought and brown plant hopper (BPH) pest attack on paddy. The drought followed by scanty rainfall significantly affected crop in 3.17 lakh hectares of land in 15 districts, over 1.28 lakh hectares of paddy crop was broken due to pest attack in 24 districts. The state government has announced programs in two levels—Rs 216 crore for drought and Rs 137 crore for pest attack from SDRF.
