Rajiv Chowk underpass to open on December 31 after repaint

GURGAON: The National Highways Authority of India plans to open the Rajiv Chowk underpass for site visitors by means of the tip of December after it's repainted from grey to sand yellow.

NHAI's contractor for the undertaking is repainting the underpass, regardless of time and costs concerned, as the colour "was not looking good".

An legitimate with the undertaking consultant stated, "We had painted the Rajiv Chowk underpass in grey. The colour was pale and dust could be seen on the walls. It was not looking good at all. Now, we are painting the entire Rajiv Chowk flyover with sand yellow colour. This colour is unique as it is dust resistant and the dust doesn't get accumulated on the walls of the underpass."

The underpass was grey when Union freeway minister for nationwide highways Nitin Gadkari had come to town to inaugurate projects in August. However, after a few months, the NHAI consultant decided to modify the colour.

On being asked about the prices enthusiastic about repainting the entire underpass, the NHAI consultant stated that it was inside the funds sanctioned for the undertaking. "The repainting of the underpass has been done within the prescribed budget and costs nothing extra. The repainting was inspired after a member of the consultancy recommended the mud yellow colour for some underpasses, especially for those in Dubai, as it is anti-dust," added the legitimate.

March 2018 was the deadline for the undertaking. Ashok Sharma, undertaking director, NHAI, stated, "The work at Rajiv Chowk is 92% complete. Only finishing work is going on. We are hopeful that the underpass will be opened to the public from December 31."

Four non-motorised tracks (NMTs) have also been built at Rajiv Chowk. However, there may be some obstruction at NMT2 (the one going against Delhi). "There is a tyre shop which is encroaching on the project and needs to be removed. The matter is in the court and we are hopeful that it will be resolved soon. Till then, we are going to open the other three NMTs. When the shop is removed, it will take us less than a week to complete the work on NMT2. The NMTs have been made to help pedestrians and two-wheelers," added the legitimate.
