Untreated water leads to closure of dyeing unit for fourth time at Arulpuram

Tirupur: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has temporarily closed a textile dyeing unit at Arulpuram in the district for the fourth time beneath the suspicion that the unit might be discharging untreated commercial effluent into an unused borewell.

During inspection, the TNPCB officials found that the unit used to be violating the Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) norms and its Individual Effluent Treatment Plant (IETP) used to be out of order. So they beneficial the district administration to disconnect electricity. Following which, the TANGEDCO has reduce the electricity connection to the unit.

"We found that the evaporation section of IETP was not working and the water used for dyeing was untreated. When we tested total dissolved solids (TDS) of the collection tank, it was 7000-8000 ppm instead of acceptable 100 ppm," stated A M Shanmugam, Tirupur south divisional environmental engineer.


Further, the collection tank for collecting the treated water, which will also be reused for dyeing process, used to be getting improperly treated water. It supposed that the unit used to be no longer reutilising the treated water, which used to be a part of the ZLD norm, stated any other TNPCB respectable.


The board used to be not able to search out where the untreated water used to be launched. It raises a suspicion that the unit would possibly were discharging the water into an unused borewell or use every other unlawful manner to discharge the waste, stated the respectable.


The unit were previous closed for 3 times for violating the ZLD norm. Last yr it gained a licence to run for a yr after a four-month ban, stated Shanmugam.tnn
