Snag in underground cable sparks 8-hour outage

GURUGRAM: Large parts of DLF 2 plunged into darkness on Sunday for nearly eight hours, leaving citizens fuming.

Power discom officers blamed an underground cable fault for the outage.

According to citizens, electrical energy went off around 3 pm and returned around 10 pm. In some spaces, energy used to be restored on Monday morning. This used to be via a ways among the longest outages this 12 months as citizens couldn't recount when the remaining such energy disruption took place.

"Sunday was outrageous. We kept waiting for the electricity but we were left disappointed," stated Shobana, a resident of DLF 2's P Block.

"It isn't sellable to outsiders that we live in one of Gurgaon's most affluent areas," stated Simriti Chopra of DLF 2's N Block.

"We are claiming to be building a world-class zero-outage project, yet officials couldn't restore the supply on time," she added.

Officials told TOI a big puncture in a key XLP underground cable resulted in energy going off at three primary transformers.

"There was a fault in XLPE underground cable of 11kv feeders emanating from Q Block sub-station feeding DLF-2 area," stated Kuldeep Nehra, sub-divisional officer of DLF City, stated. "It took us a lot of time to find the fault. After examining, the fault was found in XLPE cable at Jackranda Marg in DLF-2. The supply of DLF-2 was partially restored within one-and-a-half hours," he stated.

"The supply was restored except on three transformers in Jacaranda Marg in M Block. Our team was working at the site for these three transformers. These three affected transformers for individual consumers having high tension connections for a guest house. The fault may have been in any one transformer. By morning, electricity was restored 100%," he added.
