TIRUPUR: Opposition events criticised the Tirupur corporation for giving simplest seven days for folks to offer comments at the proposed re-demarcation of wards in the town. "Based on the 2011 census date, we have re-demarcated the wards. We have placed the related documents and the ward-wise map in all the four corporation zonal offices, apart from the corporation office and the collectorate to allow the residents and the political parties to express their views and objections, if any," said M Ashokan, corporation commissioner and re-demarcation officer.
On the opposite hand, CPM Tirupur district secretary S Muthukannan said, "Only one or two newspapers carried the news about it and even the documents and the map were displayed at the offices only in the evening on December 27. The message has not reached many people. Six days including two government holidays were the time given for feedback."
Adding to it, former DMK mayor K Selvaraj said, "The AIADMK government has deliberately doing this for its gain."
Commenting at the factor, a senior corporation professional said, "The government has given seven days, which is enough for the residents to express their views. Moreover, the guidelines do not say that the proposal documents should be given to the recognised political parties but we still gave the copies."
With around 10 lakh folks, Tirupur corporation was once demarcated into 60 wards for the first time for the 2011 native body election. While the state was once expected to witness another native body election quickly, the state executive nodded to re-demarcate the wards.
