BSF constable killed in Pak ceasefire violation

JAMMU: A Border Security Force (BSF) head constable was once killed in cross-border firing by Pakistan, targeting forward Indian posts and home spaces in Jammu's R S Pura sector on Wednesday night time. Another BSF constable and 3 civilians were also injured in the assault.

"The situation along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) is tense and war-like. The sacrifice of our martyrs will not go in vain," BSF director basic Ok Ok Sharma mentioned on Thursday.


On Wednesday night time, Pakistan violated ceasefire along the International Border (IB) and resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing, to which Indian troops retaliated. BSF head constable, A Suresh (42), was once significantly injured and later succumbed. Suresh, who hailed from Tamil Nadu, is survived by his spouse and two children, a BSF spokesperson mentioned.


Another BSF constable Dubray (31) from Odisha and 3 civilians — Ramesh Lal (50), Chanchla Devi (46) and Darshan Lal (60) — all citizens of Arnia, were also wounded in the firefight and were hospitalised, the spokesperson added.


The assault hit a number of villages in Arnia bordering the IB, mentioned Jammu further deputy commissioner Arun Manhas. "The district administration has directed all officers to remain in the highest state of preparedness in view of continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan. All schools in the region within a range of five kilometres from the IB will remain closed as a security measure till further orders. The villages, however, haven't been evacuated yet," he added.
