Mud mound collapses in Kanpur, two labourers dead

KANPUR: The cave in of mud mound at an under-construction website online close to Canal multilevel parking space at Mall Road on Saturday afternoon left two labourers dead and at least three different injured. The labourers have been operating to dig out a basement.
Police teams have been rushed to the spot for rescue operation. The injured labourers have been rushed to the district medical institution where two have been declared brought dead. The deceased labourers have been identified as Bindadeen aka Manoj (45) and Lavkesh (35), both citizens of Kundru village of Pratapgarh district, police said.

Superintendent of police (East) said that the labourers have been requested to dig soil when the free soil wall collapsed on them. "We will e book a case of inflicting demise due to negligence and have began the probe to spot the ones responsible for the incident. The different labourers, who suffered injuries together with Subhash (32), Naresh (21) and Dinesh (24), have been also trapped beneath the soil, the SP added.

Sources advised TOI that on Saturday afternoon just about a dozen labourers have been digging out a basement house at a plot belonging to 1 Sanjeev Gupta - resident of Ramadevi close to Canal parking space. They had dug around 14 feet when the heap of mud caved in. The pile that accrued after the cave in deposited on labourers-Luvkesh, Vindadeen, Manoj, Anuj, Subhash, Dinesh and Hira Lal and two others. Fellow labourers controlled to rescue Subhash and Dinesh on time, but Luvkesh and Vinda succumbed as they have been buried beneath an enormous mound of soil and it took a while to retrieve them.

Sources said the plot owner has failed to make norms for the security of labourers or workers at the website online throughout the work. When TOI visited the website online, there have been no pillars, brief partitions and stilts towards the soil face to keep the soil from collapsing.

Eyewitnesses, mostly fellow labourers, said they heard a noisy noise and joined several others to rescue the sufferers.


Hearing their calls for help, the opposite labourers at the website online knowledgeable the locals who alerted the Police Control room, which in flip alerted local and within reach police stations besides Fire department.


Police said prima facie it gave the impression that the workers had died following suffocation and demanding head injuries. Their bodies had been sent for autopsy exam, their family members have been also apprised concerning the tragedy," said a senior police reputable additional.
