Spices board prez breaks down at chilli mela

Hubballi: Hurt by the absence of elected representatives from the ruling Congress, Karnataka State Spices Board Development president Shashikala Kavali broke down on the inaugural serve as of the three-day Chilli Mela at Murasavir Mutt on Saturday. Shashikala rued lack of support from elected representatives of the area in her endeavor to paintings for the welfare of farmers and chilli growers.
Horticulture minister S S Mallikarjun used to be intended to inaugurate the mela, while district minister Vinay Kulkarni, minister Santosh Lad, leader of opposition Jagadish Shettar , MLAs Abbayya Prasad, C S Shivalli, Aravind, N H Konaraddi, MLC Basavaraj Horatti and different elected representatives of the district were invited as guests. Only ZP president Chaitra Shirur attended the mela which used to be scheduled to be inaugurated at 11am. Chaitra used to be asked to inaugurate the mela put up midday after the invited dignitaries did not flip up.

Chaitra took a dig at elected representatives, basically the ones from the ruling celebration, for now not attending the mela. She stated that after the KSSDB president, who's lady, is putting in numerous efforts to improve the board and to help chilli growers and different farmers, she should be given full support and inspired by elected representatives. "It is really unfortunate that Kavali is not getting expected support from the leaders," she stated.

Hearing this, Shashikala got emotional and broke down at the level. Trying to hold back her tears, Shashikala stated, "I have been facing one or the other hurdle for the smooth functioning of the board ever since I became the president. Somehow, I managed to deliver the best despite non-cooperation from officers and some elected representatives. I am trying my best to take the benefits of various government schemes to the farmers, especially chilli growers. A fund of Rs 21 crore under various schemes is lying with the department since 2013. Not even a single scheme reached the farmers in the state," she alleged.


She alleged that the board's programmes don't seem to be being done due to a well-planned nexus between local officials and officials at Bengaluru.


KSSDB managing director Somashekhar Hollolli stated that he used to be now not aware of the allegations levelled by Shashikala and stated that invites were distributed 10 days prior to the event. Hubballi APMC member Veeranna Malagi stated that there used to be no proper campaign to advertise the mela amongst farmers.


Organizers of the event have erected 150 stalls.
