BHUBANESWAR: Devotees can now watch are living count of hundi (offertory box) donations in Jagannath Temple at Puri because the shrine management on Thursday put in a giant tv screen inside the temple premises. Besides, five closed circuit tv cameras have been put in to stay tabs on mischief mongers.

The transfer got here in the wake of 2 cases of theft of the hundi cash during its count previously. We will involve devotees in the process. They can watch the count on the LED screen, installed outside our branch office in the shrine premises," said a temple professional.


As per the practice, the count of the donations is conducted via two or 3 workers of a nationalized financial institution on the presence of a few temple team of workers and security guards on a daily basis inside the shrine. "We had earlier installed only one CCTV camera. Now five more surveillance cameras have been installed," the temple professional added. On a normal day, the temple obtain donation between Rs 2 lakh and Rs four lakh in the hundi, positioned right in entrance of the sanctum sanctorum. On festive days, the hundi assortment crosses Rs 5 lakh.
