Kim says Trump summit 'historic' chance to build 'good future'

SEOUL: North Korean chief Kim Jong-un hailed a deliberate assembly with US President Donald Trump as a "historic" opportunity during talks with America's best diplomat Mike Pompeo in Pyongyang, in step with state media on Thursday.

Kim, who is at the centre of a whirlwind of international relations as the global group appears to curtail the North's nuclear programme, said his summit with Trump "would be a historic meeting" and an "excellent first step".

He said it would help in opposition to making improvements to the situation on the Korean peninsula and the "building of a good future", in feedback published on North Korea's authentic KCNA information company.


It was once the first time Kim is understood to have said the deliberate assembly with Trump, in step with South Korean information company Yonhap.


Pompeo was once within the North to speak about preparations for the high-stakes summit, expected inside weeks, as well as to protected the release of three Americans detained in North Korea.


Kim said he had granted "amnesty" to the three men "who have been detained in the DPRK for their anti-DPRK hostilities", in step with KCNA.


The transfer is noticed as a diplomatic victory for Washington and eliminates the remaining main obstacle to the summit between the Cold War foes.
