GUWAHATI: In yet another example of moral policing in Assam, a man and a girl had been allegedly confined and beaten up on Saturday by way of villagers in Assam's Nagaon district for having an "illicit affair".
"Residents of Jhumurmur village physically assaulted Devi Barua and Ubed Ullah and confined them in a house. A police team from Kathiatoli outpost rushed to the spot and rescued them," Assam Police stated in a statement. The police on Monday arrested eight folks. "The arrested were part of the mob," Nagaon SP Shankar Barata Raimedhi instructed TOI .
Per week ago, a mob had attacked a pair at a village in Goalpara, claiming it was "improper" for an single couple to transport round in combination.
