Coimbatore-Karur road project now in trouble

Coimbatore: Even as protests continue to rock the Chennai-Salem eight-lane green corridor venture, a group of local farmers have raised apprehensions regarding land acquisition for the six-lane greenfield street venture connecting Coimbatore and Karur.

The Tamil Nadu Farmers Association (CITU) has petitioned the collector to ensure farmers’ critiques, fears and agreements are considered prior to their lands are assessed and marked for acquisition.


With the six-lane greenfield venture about to take off and the land acquisition procedure prone to start in a couple of weeks, farmers alongside the proposed stretch are getting frightened. Officials say that 2,957 acres of land should be got in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Karur districts.


“They should be careful when the land that comes under the purchase is fertile agricultural land,” mentioned the affiliation president, S Palanisamy. “In circumstances where the land has just right irrigation facility, water supply and just right yield, we wish the government to find another land,” he mentioned.


The farmers also demanded reimbursement for farmers, who will lose their land, to be in line with the land’s returns to the farmers and its fertility. “They cannot fix a price in line with the rule of thumb value and the marketplace price. The livelihood it supplies to the farmer will have to also be taken into account,” mentioned Palanisamy. “We also want them to take our critiques and demands into consideration prior to just walking into our lands and striking marking stones like they already personal it. The areas prone to come under acquisition are Kovaipudur, Madukkarai and Kinathukidavu belt, which are fertile.”
