GURUGRAM: Construction work are going on in complete swing at a number of places across the town, despite HSPCB’s (Haryana State Pollution Control Board) ban for 48 hours on Thursday, following implementation of GRAP measures within the wake of severe air air pollution.
There are over 1,200 lively construction websites in and around Gurugram. TOI performed a reality test on Friday and spotted construction was going on at 12 spots, including along Golf Course Road, Golf Course (extension) street, Southern Peripheral Road, South City 2, Sohna-Gurugram Marg and Dwarka Expressway. Not best that, at some places, there have been no on-site green boundaries, whilst construction subject material — ferried via uncovered vehicles — was mendacity around uncovered. There was no proof of water sprinkling at any of those websites.
A construction labourer said, “We’re unaware of any ban. So a long way, we’ve now not put any green boundaries as we haven’t been requested to.” None of the labourers at any site were wearing mask, the place GRAP requires distribution of mask amongst them.
Green activists alleged construction norms are being flouted routinely. “Every day, I see uncovered vehicles sporting construction subject material. Only a few websites have dust boundaries. We’ve never observed any sprinkling happening. Construction waste is being dumped on roadsides and in Aravalis. There are clouds of dust across the town. The state of affairs is alarming, but authorities aren’t afflicted,” said Vivek Kamboj, a green activist.
Residents demanded instant inspection of construction websites. “There are hundreds of websites within the town. It’s now not easy to prohibit construction via just issuing notices. Authorities want to carry out inspections and impose heavy consequences on offenders,” said Aseem Takyar.
HSPCB officials confident strict motion against violators. “We assure you we’ll take strict motion against violators. No construction process can happen within the town for subsequent 48 hours,” said a HSPCB reliable. As in line with the graded response motion plan (GRAP) that has formally been applied, dust from construction websites must be managed. HSPCB is liable for monitoring implementation and civic authorities are liable for sporting out GRAP measures like sprinkling water on roads and penalising those who burn or sell off rubbish.
