Govt to reward locals for info on spurious liquor units

KANPUR: In a move which is more likely to curb manufacturing of unlawful liquor, the Kanpur district management has determined to praise residents who tell it about those who produce and sell spurious liquor within the town.

The district management would stay the names of such informers secret for his or her safety.

"A reward of Rs 1,100 would be given to those people who would inform us about those involved in manufacturing spurious liquor and selling it. Their names would not be disclosed," stated district Justice of the Peace Surendra Singh. The DM also stated that the state government had not too long ago amended the Excise Act and added segment 68 to the act, which calls for capital punishment for other people concerned with manufacturing of and business of spurious liquor.

Seeking to make the general public conscious about the ill effects of illicit liquor on one's well being, the DM also flagged off a rally within the town on Saturday from Rani Laxmi Bai crossing in Bithoor. Singh added that people who informed the management about producers of spurious liquor stand an opportunity to get a bigger award if the consignment of seized liquor is massive.
