Landslide at Agumbe Ghat disrupts traffic

MANGALURU/UDUPI: Days after the Charmadi ghat mudslide, an enormous landslide was once reported on seventh hairpin bend of Agumbe Ghat on early on Thursday following heavy rain. Police have banned cars sporting heavy loads whilst rest together with buses are allowed.
About 40 meters of the portion of the embankment is broken in that phase.

According to the NHAI officers, the massive landslide occurred following a street accident. A canter car hit the maintaining (guard) wall of the ghat and damaged it. The ghat phase is 9km in length and has 14 hairpin curves. The area across the maintaining guard was once further damaged after incessant rains and brought about a landslide in the stretch. Around 10 metres of the maintaining wall collapsed at the side of basis.

Officials added that the curve is on the border of Udupi and Shivamogga district.

After injury, vehicular motion in stretch was once limited to only buses and other gentle cars. However, no commercial cars laden with goods will probably be allowed on the stretch which might motive further injury to the road. The heavy cars can be moved by way of SK Border, Charmadi Ghat or through Sampaje Ghat.

Udupi deputy commissioner has directed the RTO, police and NH officers to prohibit motion of buses at evening on that stretch until it's repaired.

When asked whether or not repair works will probably be taken up in an instant, officers said that it isn't conceivable as there are heavy rains lashing the stretch.
