Siddaramaiah faces flak over Parameshwara losing home

BENGALURU/HUBBALLI: Even as the Congress high command on Friday iced over portfolios for the birthday celebration’s eight new ministers while making senior leaders shed key ministries, a recent controversy erupted over divesting deputy leader minister G Parameshwara of the home portfolio and giving it to senior MLA and Lingayat leader MB Patil.

Though senior ministers DK Shivakumar, who used to be requested to surrender medical training, and industries minister KJ George, who misplaced the IT/BT portfolio, selected to stay circumspect, the transfer of the home portfolio took on caste overtones, with Parameshwara receiving make stronger from PWD minister and JD(S) leader HD Revanna.

“The Congress is suppressing a Dalit. Where used to be the necessity to remove the home portfolio from a Dalit? I've high regards for Parameshwara,” Revanna said.

There have been murmurs even throughout the Congress on whether it used to be sensible to divest Parameshwara of the home portfolio. Some blamed former CM Siddaramaiah, who's reported to have had a big say in the allocation of ministries and successfully got his supporters into the cabinet.

With the verbal duel that broke out between Siddaramaiah and Parameshwara over the home portfolio two days previous in the backdrop, Congress sources identified that Siddaramaiah holds three posts — CLP leader, chairman of the coordination committee and member of the Congress Working Committee. Why, they requested, must others no longer be allowed to retain key portfolios?

Siddaramaiah, in Hubballi, reacting to these tendencies through pronouncing: “ I put force on the Congress high command and got the DyCM submit for Parameshwara. But it used to be the birthday celebration high command who modified the portfolios.”

To Revanna’s statement that the issue had gained significance as a result of Parameshwara is a Dalit, Siddaramaiah requested: “Did Revanna say I had a hand in it? If he has no longer named me, let it be. Let him question me, and I will be able to answer.”

To senior JD(S) MLC Basavaraj Horrati’s statement that he used to be appearing like a CM, Siddaramaiah said: “I don’t know why Horatti has expressed sadness on this issue. What do I do if the high command adjustments portfolios? The Congress is following all selections taken through the coordination committee. If he has any issues, let him query CM HD Kumaraswamy.”
