CHANDIGARH: In a step to meet its poll promise forward of the Lok Sabha elections, the cash-strapped Punjab government’s council of ministers on Wednesday finalised the modalities for distribution of loose smartphones to the adolescence. The first batch of smartphones is expected to be allotted in the month of March.

The council of ministers made up our minds to distribute good telephones to graduating students of presidency schools, colleges and technical establishments in the first phase of the scheme. But those students would have to post a self-certification mentioning that they don't own any good phone.

The cabinet also gave nod to provide one time 12 GB data and 600 local mins voice talk time loose with one-year validity to the adolescence who can be allotted those smartphones.


It has been made up our minds that for the implementation of the scheme, the vendor can be selected via an open clear bidding process. The Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation has already floated the scheme’s smooth and the vendor can be finalised by February end.


The state government had introduced the scheme named "Mobile Phone to the Youth" in its finances for the monetary 12 months 2017-18 with an goal to present impetus to it's virtual empowerment agenda.


The scheme provides for distribution of cellphones with quite a lot of good features, corresponding to touch display, camera and applications to get admission to social media.
