Badruddin makes space for Congress in 5 Assam seats

GUWAHATI: After saying it could sacrifice its own potentialities within the Lok Sabha polls to counter BJP in Assam, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Monday decided to not contest in 5 seats of the eight seats it had earlier said it could.

The celebration, led by means of fragrance baron Badruddin Ajmal, will box candidates handiest in Dhubri, Karimganj and Barpeta. “We have decided we received’t contest beyond three seats. Our primary fear is to stop division of secular votes, which can give BJP an advantage. Our sole intention is to stop BJP,” AIUDF normal secretary Aminul Islam said.

BJP and its best friend Asom Gana Parishad lashed out at the “unholy nexus” between AIUDF and Congress. “Earlier, AIUDF said it could box candidates in all constituencies where there's a considerable minority voter base. This unexpected trade of plans makes it transparent AIUDF and Congress have entered an working out,” said Ranjeet Kumar Dass, president of BJP’s Assam unit. “It received’t lend a hand either celebration. People of Assam don’t want politics here to centre around only one group.”

While AIUDF rejected claims of an electoral working out, Congress said AIUDF’s decision used to be a sign of its “weak point”. “Had AIUDF been robust enough, it shouldn't have come nearer to Congress,” said former CM and Congress veteran Tarun Gogoi. On Saturday, AIUDF president Ajmal had made an appeal to Congress to come in combination within the fight in opposition to BJP.

While AIUDF did neatly within the 2006 and 2011 assembly elections, within the 2016 assembly election, it received simply 13 seats and used to be just about obliterated within the fresh panchayat polls.
