Cops under scanner for shielding racketeer

Surat: Some workforce of Sarthana police station in the town are underneath scanner following allegation that they had gained an amount of Rs 30 lakh to shield people excited about racket of altering chassis number of buses to resell them.

Surat joint commissioner of police (sector I) Harikrushna Patel had earlier this week ordered probe into allegations that cops had gained kick-backs from racketeers. However, the inquiry is still pending. “I had gained a criticism that police had favoured some person excited about a racket. Hence I had ordered an inquiry. At this second I can’t reveal main points,” Patel instructed TOI.


The racket came to light after police seized two buses with identical registration quantity last week. Sources stated that proprietor of the buses had provided strong evidence to Patel that would establish that cops from Sarthana had gained money to offer protection to the individual (identity no longer revealed) who runs the racket from his storage.


On Saturday, Surat police commissioner Satish Sharma requested the involved officer to check in an offence in the case and initiate movements in opposition to the ones involved.


“We are inquiring if the allegations are true. I've ordered police to check in a criticism in opposition to the ones involved in the racket of fixing chassis number of buses,” Sharma instructed TOI.
