Rajiv Gandhi National Law Univ stir intensifies

PATIALA: Students of Rajiv Gandhi National Law University on Sunday announced to boycott exams scheduled to start out from Monday to protest the suspension of six scholars.

The six scholars had banged their plates on March 13 to sign up their protest against “poor and unhygienic food” being served in the mess. On March 15, the college shaped a committee to appear into the topic and ordered their suspension. On March 16, the students spent the night protesting at the primary street out of doors the college. They said they were stunned that the college suspended the students simplest 3 days ahead of mid-semester examination. Over 700 scholars are pursuing regulation in the college.

“We have made up our minds to boycott the exams. We would no longer end our protest till our calls for are met and the suspension orders revoked. Administrative officer SP Singh must be suspended as he played a unfavorable role and misused his powers. He has violated the rights of privateness by means of forcibly taking a look into our WhatsApp messages and other social media groups. He additionally confiscated the cell phones of many scholars,” said one of the protesters.

“We are hard hygienic food. A couple of scholars asked all of us to pick out up our empty plates and stay them banging. However, an afternoon later, the college suspended six scholars. We then staged a protest in entrance of the guest house of the college on Saturday. On Sunday, we sat in entrance of the administrative center of vice-chancellor. The woman scholars scaled the back gate of the hostel to take part in the protest as they are hard extension of hostel entry timings. Since ultimate two nights we're sitting on mattresses we introduced from our hostel rooms,” said a scholar of BA LLB second-year.


Students claimed the girls aren't allowed to roam inside the block after nine pm.


Vice-chancellor Paramjit Singh Jaswal said a three-member bench of the Punjab and Haryana high court had obviously maintained that the suspension of the students shall be revoked automatically in the event that they end their strike. He said the students need to apologise in writing. The VC added that the students were suspended for indiscipline as they banged their plates in the mess. The mid-semester exams are going to be held as scheduled and the students who don't appear shall be marked absent in line with regulations, he said.


Administrative officer sent on leave


Administrative officer SP Singh against whom scholars have been protesting has been sent on leave till additional orders. Meanwhile, vice-chancellor Paramjit Singh Jaswal said Justice Mahesh Grover of the Punjab and Haryana high court has asked the students to call off their strike and guarantee them that 3 of their calls for, including sending SP Singh on leave, shall be approved. The VC said the students did not pay heed to his and the committee of judges’ requests. He said scholars had complained to judges who on Friday had come to college for his or her official paintings but did not mention concerning the quality of food.
