MUMBAI: An assistant inspector of Manickpur police station in Vasai used to be allegedly caught red-handed whilst accepting Rs 25,000 as bribe from a complainant who had filed a non-cognisable offence in opposition to a lady who, he claimed, have been harassing him.
Assistant police inspector Asif Baig (38) allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from the complainant after threatening to make the woman file a cross-complaint in opposition to him.
The complainant approached officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Thane on Monday, alleging that-Baig used to be threatening to implicate him in a false case. The complainant agreed to pay the primary instalment on Tuesday.
A trap used to be laid on the police station. The complainant claimed he had paid the cash to Baig at round 11.28 pm when he used to be allegedly caught red-handed.
