Bhubaneswar: Poll officers in Puri district on Sunday seized digital devices on suspicion that the articles were being taken for distribution among citizens in Kanas space of the district. This is first example of digital items seizure right through the election season in Odisha. However, police and poll officers have seized a lot of cash and liquor at regular intervals throughout different districts.
“We received knowledge that a car was transporting fridges, mixer grinders and tv units in Kanas space. Our flying squad intercepted the car. The motive force failed to present satisfactory answers when asked about the delivery of the goods. We strongly apprehend that the kitchen and residential home equipment were supposed for wooing citizens,” Puri district collector and returning officer Jyoti Prakash Das advised TOI.
Sources mentioned 4 fridges, ten mixer grinders, 4 tv units and some induction cookers were seized from the car. “We handed over the digital items to the police. Prima facie, now we have discovered that the goods were meant to be delivered to a self-help group in Kanas space. Investigation is underway to establish extra details,” Das mentioned. The restoration of the devices came an afternoon after poll officers seized nearly Rs 16.75 lakh in cash in Puri district on Saturday.
The Puri Lok Sabha seat together with Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Sambalpur and the 42 assembly segments underneath them will cross to polls on April 23.
