BJP dares Congress to reveal roadmap for Patidar reservation

AHMEDABAD: Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday accused the Congress of misguiding the Patidar neighborhood over the issue of reservation and asked the party to show the roadmap underneath which it has promised a quota to them over and above the 50 consistent with cent cap set by means of the Supreme Court.

Prasad, whilst relating to seven other Supreme Court judgments, including a landmark judgment in 1992, alleged that the Congress' reservation communicate is "height of political opportunism" aimed only at getting Patidar votes throughout the following month's Gujarat meeting polls.

"Congress is now talking about reservation to Patidars. This is height of political opportunism. I want Congress to reveal their roadmap as to how they would breach the 50 per cent cap set by the SC," the law minister stated.

"Is it a mere eyewash or cheating? If it is being done for getting votes, then it must stop," Prasad advised reporters right here.

"There are seven different judgments about reservation, including the 1992 Indra Sawhney judgment, which clearly says that we can't cross the 50 per cent cap," the minister stated.

The Supreme Court had additionally made it transparent that any law about reservation does not become resistant to judicial evaluate just by striking it into the ninth schedule of the Constitution, he stated.


Last week, Patidar chief Hardik Patel introduced his reinforce to the Congress for the impending Gujarat polls, pointing out that the party has promised to offer reservation underneath Article 31(C) of the Constitution, if voted to energy.

I request the Congress not to cheat Patidars for getting their votes," he stated.
