Delimitation draft draws flak from public

COIMBATORE: The ward delimitation draft has come beneath flak for loss of planning integrity and politicians, residents and various associations in the city have raised objections to its execution.
The city municipal corporation has gained nearly 300 packages, difficult various changes to the ward delimitation draft document that was once released by the district collector, T N Hariharan, lately. Public representatives got every week's time to return forward with their ideas/objections.

On Wednesday, DMK MLA N Karthik met corporation commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan to sign in his objections at the transfer. He stated the borders of various wards have been drawn in one of these method that they have been a part of two constituencies. "For instance, some parts of ward 74 and 75 fall in Thondamuthur constituency and the remaining in Coimbatore South constituency. For an MLA, it is easier if one whole ward comes under his/her administrative purview. It's difficult if just part of a ward falls in the constituency. Also, some wards jump borders, which make it difficult to administer," he stated.

Residents can even find it difficult if they have been made to go back and forth to the ward places of work located several kilometres away from their apartments to sign in their grievances or avail services and products, the Singanallur MLA stated.

The proposal also doesn't have any point out of slum spaces in the city that mostly encroach upon roads and water our bodies. There are nearly 50,000 families with a population of 2 lakh in those slum spaces. "They are not included in any ward," stated a supply.

District collectorate officials stated they have been yet to obtain the entire packages from various places of work. The main place of job has gained best round 15 petitions. "Major objections have been regarding addition or deletion of certain streets and households," an legitimate stated.

The collector released the delimitation draft document ahead of the Pongal vacations and allowed the public seven days' time to lift their objections. "The time ended on Wednesday. Now, we will compile the suggestions and send it to the district collector. He will make changes accordingly and send it to the state election committee," the legitimate added.


Coimbatore Corporation has 100 wards. In the draft, their borders have been redrawn in one of these method that every ward has a minimum population of 15,847 with a maximum of 10% deviation. The exercise was once done in keeping with the 2011 census, consistent with which Coimbatore has a population of 15,84,719.


The greatest ward was once 41(Ganapathy area) with a population of 49, 138. This ward was once divided into three.


"This is not the final document. All the suggestions from the public will be considered. Based on the election department's instructions, we will revise the proposal," town corporation commissioner stated.
