Bhubaneswar: Police arrest man for running 'fake' institute

BHUBANESWAR: The police on Monday arrested one Ranjan Das, who allegedly cheated masses of scholars via running a “pretend” institute without legitimate permission from the state government and regulatory businesses.


Cuttack deputy superintendent of police Akhileshvar Singh said the institute at Jagatpur house in town introduced one-year postgraduate diploma in commercial safety. The institute doesn’t have the permission of the state directorate of technical schooling and coaching, which is mandatory for running such courses.


More than 100 scholars have been enrolled in every batch. The scholars spent round Rs 28,500 in opposition to direction fee besides massive sum in opposition to other expenses. But the certificates they were given were not identified via any agency, he said.


Police said the institute ran for previous greater than 5 years. Probes are on as to how it managed to hoodwink people for see you later, police said. Some more arrests are most probably, police sources said.
