M'luru: Heavy downpour leaves city in a shambles

MANGALURU: Torrential rains that lashed that town on Tuesday morning inundated most of the low lying areas within the city. The rains which started at 9am left town in a shambles with the secure drizzle turning to a downpour by mid-afternoon. Many low lying areas within the city witnessed artificial flooding and water entered many compounds – making it tricky for citizens to project out or are available.
Major areas that noticed inundation were Kodialguthu, Kottara Chowki, PVS, Kadri Kambala, Panjimogeru, Adyar, Yekkuru and other areas. Most of the roads within the city were ankle deep water because of both drains being full or loss of drains.

Shivaganga Milk parlour owner Shivaram, whose shop is situated beside the Kodialguthu storm water drain, stated that is the first time in 25 years that his shop is getting inundated. "I have no longer seen this sort of downpour in about three a long time,’’ he added. Many basements were additionally in knee-deep water and lots of vehicles parked close to the storm drain noticed water logging. There were energy outages across the city.



Reports from Udyavara, in Udupi district, stated that early morning gusty winds uprooted many trees and electric poles inflicting widespread damage.

However, IMD Bengaluru stated that monsoon had set over Kerala on Tuesday and has no longer arrived over Karnataka as of now. "We are looking at for 2 or three days after which declare,’’ stated an official. Regarding what the downpour was once – whether unseasonal or pre-monsoon, the official stated: It turns out like pre-monsoon,’’ the official added.


Surprisingly, barring Mangaluru and Bantwal taluks all other taluks of Dakshina Kananda – Sullia, Puttur and Belthangady - didn't witness the downpour town witnessed.
