Major Leetul Gogoi case: Moral turpitude, corruption will be dealt with sternly, says Army chief

NEW DELHI: Any case of moral turpitude and corruption shall be handled sternly, Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat stated on Tuesday, regarding Major Leetul Gogoi, who used to be discovered to blame of "fraternising" with a neighborhood girl at a Srinagar lodge.

Gen Rawat stated action shall be taken towards Major Gogoi in step with his guilt. "I had clearly stated that any case of moral turpitude and corruption shall be handled in an overly stern method. The court of inquiry has advisable that we must pass in for court martial court cases.

"If it is related to moral turpitude, then we can take action accordingly. If it is something else, the punishment shall be (in accordance) to the crime he has dedicated," Gen Rawat instructed newshounds in New Delhi according to a question on Maj Gogoi.

Last month, an Army court of inquiry indicted Maj Gogoi for "fraternising" with a neighborhood girl at a Srinagar lodge and being away from his place of responsibility.

Major Leetul Gogoi used to be detained through police in May following an altercation when he used to be allegedly trying to enter a Srinagar lodge with the 18-year-old girl.


Last 12 months, Major Gogoi used to be at the centre of a human protect row after his decision to tie a civilian to the bonnet of his car in Kashmir, purportedly as a protect towards stone pelters right through polling in Srinagar Lok Sabha by-election.


He used to be honoured through Gen Rawat with the Army chief's 'Commendation Card' for his sustained efforts in counter-insurgency operations.


Gen Rawat stated austerity measures shall be brought within the Army to the maximum conceivable degree.


"As a ways as using visitor rooms and hotels are involved anywhere we now have visitor rooms to be had, we must stay in our visitor rooms. And in case the visitor rooms don't seem to be to be had, then the lodge facility must be utilised," he stated.
