Survey dept goes hi-tech in district

Coimbatore: Chain and measuring tapes used for surveying lands would quickly develop into passé’. The district survey division has won two kinds of tools to survey and digitalize survey details.

The division has won Differential Geographic Positions System (DGPS) and Total Station (TS) to survey the lands with accuracy. The division has already surveyed all the Kavundampalayam and its surrounding spaces using Total Station software. TS is helping to measure each vertical and horizontal angles and the slope distance from the software to a point.


DGPS has been linked with Global Positioning System (GPS) to supply accurate location. The survey division has been using the DGPS to survey Kotagiri within the Nilgiris district. A 25-member survey workforce has been deployed in Kotagiri for the aim.


Recently, the town corporation passed a solution to behavior an entire survey of newly-added spaces — Kuniyamuthur, Kurichi municipalities, Saravanamaptti, Thudiyalur, Kalapatti, Vadvalli, Veerakeralam, Chinnavedampatti, Vellakinar and Vilankurichi town panchayats.


Assistant director of the survey division, Coimbatore district, C Govindasamy said, “We are going to behavior the survey on the newly-added spaces using complex DGPS and TS tools. We would survey all of the executive and personal lands and buildings with the help of the tools. The survey details might be digitalized quickly. At provide, we collect survey details on paper best.”
