GU puts brakes on carry-forward system

Ahmedabad: For the ones in the hunt for admission in undergraduate and postgraduate classes in the Gujarat University in the educational year 2018, it’s time to brace up for some serious studies. The GU has scrapped the unlimited ‘bring ahead’ system which allowed students to ‘leap’ into the following semester till they hit the general tests!

In a notification which can have an effect on 1000's of students, the GU mentioned that it has tightened the current carry-forward system. According to the fresh directives, students of BA, BCom, BSc, BBA, BCA, BEd, MA, MCom, MSc and other classes will be allowed to move best to the fast subsequent semester, if they have failed in the present semester. They may not be allowed to move ahead additional up the rungs of semesters if the backlog is not cleared.


The decision comes in the backdrop of the GU suffering with an enormous backlog of around 15,000-18,000 final year students who've not passed in earlier tests. GU officials mentioned that there are lots of students who are straddled with the weight of clearing as many as 10-20 tests. It wishes mention that students are not given their final stage certificate till they transparent all the backlog tests.

“The transfer is aimed at improving the quality of schooling in schools. While curtailing the carry-forward scheme will lessen the weight of tests on the university teachers, it'll additionally encourage students to become honest of their studies,” mentioned GU vice-chancellor Himanshu Pandya.


Spokesperson of National Students Union of India (NSUI) Subhan Saiyad mentioned: “We have submitted a memorandum opposing GU scrapping the carry-forward system. The GU should scrap the semester system first, ahead of placing the scholars in limbo.”


Syndicate member and previous Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) chief, Pankaj Shukla, mentioned: “The transfer will mandate students to become honest in school studies and support the schooling standards.”
