MOHALI: Despite a ban on operations of evening golf equipment, pubs and discos in Zirakpur, late-night parties are being organised with impunity reportedly at the streets of the township. Though the native police had been claiming that they have got been ordering disco closure after nighttime, all the exercise turns out futile as revellers don't care two hoots about regulations.
Besides, they disturb the peace of residents, thanks to the alleged slackness of the cops.
In the wake of the impending Lok Sabha elections, district magistrate-cum-DC Gurpreet Kaur Sapra on March 16 issued orders banning the operation of discos, dhabas, eating places, golf equipment and different leisure places after nighttime in Mohali. The notice issued to the DC states that the orders willl remain in drive until May 10. The orders additional reads that none of the road-side vendors or rehriwalas will be allowed to perform between nighttime and 6 am on any day.
It has been noticed that the discos had been operating until overdue evening with impunity. Police, however, declare that they have got been registering FIRs in opposition to disco homeowners caught violating orders. Mohali SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar mentioned, "I have also received such complaints and directions have been issued to the officers concerned to book persons violating the norms and also check discos, pubs, road-side eateries which allow people to drink at public places."
The residents of Zirakpur believe that eating places, dhabas or even road-side eateries had been fearlessly serving liquor or allowing folks to drink on their premises. Last year, 3 to four disco homeowners were booked for violating the orders issued via the DM as they were selling liquor without allow at their discos. Mohali DC has banned the operation of such leisure places after nighttime. She mentioned, "The orders have been issued in the wake of model code of conduct so that it may keep the revellers at bay and residents are at peace during the elections. All road-side eateries, pubs, clubs and restaurants will have to close down by midnight."
