Kalladka schools opt for government’s Akshara Dasoha scheme

MANGALURU: Sri Rama Vidya Kendra, Kalladka, and Sri Devi High School, Punacha, which had hogged the limelight after the state government stopped financial grants to these schools from the Kollur Mookambika Temple, have now been coated underneath the Midday meal programme of the state government.
The cancellation of faculty adoption programme by means of the Kollur Temple had changed into a topic for political mudslinging by means of the BJP and Congress. The schools which might be headed by means of RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, had taken it as a challenge and pooled donations from the general public to proceed to offer free food to scholars. Now, according to the requests of the management, the federal government has introduced both these schools underneath the ‘Akshara Dasoha’ scheme. Accordingly, noon meals can be supplied to 908 scholars in Kalladka school and 127 scholars in Punacha school.

The previous Congress government had stopped the financial support given by means of Kollur Mookambika Temple to Sri Rama Vidya Kendra, Kalladka, and Sri Devi Vidya Kendra, Punacha, institutes run by means of RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat in 2016. The then district minister B Ramanatha Rai, who was also the MLA of Bantwal on the time, had justified the federal government’s determination.

Bantwal block training officer N Shivaprakash informed TOI that the federal government has sanctioned noon meals to both the universities underneath the Akshara Dasoha scheme. “The management of faculties in Kalladka and Punacha had given us a request letter in quest of inclusion of their schools underneath the Akshara Dasoha scheme. The request has been licensed, and we have began supplying rice to the universities. Other pieces may also be supplied to the universities. Earlier, we had asked the universities to transform a part of the Akshara Dasoha scheme,” he added.


Akshara Dasoha in-charge for Bantwal, Rajalakshmi, said the universities in Kalladka and Punacha had submitted requests finally of May to be included for the scheme. “We have began supplying rice to the universities, and different pieces may also be supplied quickly,” she added.


Cancellation of faculty adoption by means of the Kollur Temple had led to a number of protests, with the BJP and Congress locking horns over the issue. While scholars had held protests in Bantwal, BJP leader and MP Shobha Karandlaje had launched a ‘mane mane bhikshatane’ protest against the federal government. Shobha had asked women to donate a handful of rice, so that kids studying in the two schools could have their noon meal.


Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat refused to remark on the issue. He said, “I am not chatting with anyone on the noon meal issue.” Rai was unavailable for remark.
